“Look at the East”; Iranian foreign policy strategy and dynamics of Iranian foreign policy

In an interview with Mehr reporter, Mohsen Pakaine, referring to the importance of “looking to the East” and Iranian diplomatic movements in independent unions such as Brix and Shanghai, said: “The” East Look “approach should be taken into consideration from two perspectives.

He added: First, the East means geographically; That is, countries located in Asia and eastern Iran, such as China, South Korea, Japan and other countries. In other words, the East has a political aspect, meaning that countries are intended to oppose the West and are in favor of multilateralism and do not accept Western countries' analysis, especially the United States. These countries are independent and emphasize their national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“With this perspective, we can have many friends,” Pakayin continued. In the geographical east, our biggest friend is China, who is both Iranian oil buyers and commercially cooperated. Iran is also of great importance in the field of transport and transit as a bridge between Asia, Europe and Africa.

Former Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan added: “In terms of security, Iran is very important as a stable country in the region; Iran has a strong will to combat terrorism and smuggling, as well as a strong belief in peace, friendship and regional security. This is of particular importance to China, which wants to trade and transfer energy in a safe zone.

He emphasized that other countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and Russia are also our close friends. He emphasized: Some countries, although not geographical in the East, are in line with Iran in the multilateral and confrontation with Iran. These countries, like Latin America and Africa, can be our partner within the framework of the “East Look” approach.

“So we can cooperate with these countries that are large numbers; Follow and so the approach to looking at the East is of great importance.

The former Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan stated: “This approach does not mean rejecting communication with the West, and we will welcome whenever Western countries abandon the hostility and cooperate with mutual respect.” European countries can also be our partner if they wish to cooperate based on mutual respect.

“The look at the East and the West reflects the dynamics of Iranian foreign policy,” Pakayin said.
