Head of Parliament's Agriculture Commission: ID update is essential for the agricultural sector

Mohammad Javad Askari, at a joint meeting with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh, and the ministry's deputies, raised the most important concerns and demands of MPs in the field of rural transport and housing.

The head of the Majlis Agriculture Commission emphasized the importance of precise meteorological forecasts for the agricultural sector, saying that the meteorological equipment and facilities need to be updated and strengthened to provide accurate and timely forecasts to farmers.

Askari also pointed to the problems of transporting crops on road, rail, air and sea routes, and said that transport infrastructure should be updated to export and move agricultural goods at better speed and quality.

He pointed to transit problems in the border areas: There are challenges in the transfer of agricultural products at the Azerbaijan border and some other border crossings. I suggest that the Minister of Roads and Urban Development and members of the Agriculture Commission visit border areas such as Shalamcheh, Basra and borders related to Afghanistan and Pakistan to address the existing problems.

The head of the Majlis Agriculture Commission described the price of agricultural products as another concern in the field and emphasized that laws and regulations should be amended to reduce the cost of transporting agricultural products.

Askari also said about the importance of rural housing and rural road improvement: Currently, the ratio of urban to rural population is 2 % to 5 %, compared to 2 % at the beginning of the revolution. For this reason, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, in collaboration with the Housing Foundation, needs to implement better plans for rural housing development.

Referring to the actions of the Housing Foundation in this regard, he emphasized the need to strengthen construction projects in rural areas and said: Improvement of rural roads, strengthening roads between farms and combing rural routes is one of the main demands of MPs.
