Iran: Tehran's baseless claim of interference in the Red Sea is designed to escalate tension in the region

According to Mehr news agency, Amir Saeed Irwani, Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, wrote on Monday local time in a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the head of the Security Council: Iran's position towards Yemen has always been stable and stable. Since the beginning of the crisis in 2015, Iran has supported a political solution to the conflict and called for a comprehensive ceasefire, inclusive dialogue and a peaceful process that respects Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The senior diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized: Regarding the situation in the Red Sea, Iran once again emphasizes its commitment to ensure the safety and security of international shipping lines. Allegations of Iranian interference in the Red Sea are baseless claims designed to escalate tensions and create an excuse for further destabilization of the region by the United States and its allies.
Irvani clarified: The baseless accusations raised by the representative of the Zionist regime, which is accompanied by the support of its closest ally, the United States of America, is a clear attempt to blame Iran for its illegal actions and destructive activities. It is the hostile Zionist regime, not Iran, which has always pursued the policy of provocation and destabilizing activities and is considered a serious threat to regional and extra-regional peace and security.
Iran's ambassador to the United Nations emphasized: As a responsible member of the United Nations, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always adhered to its obligations under international law and the United Nations Charter and has not been involved in any activities that contradict the relevant resolutions of the Security Council. Therefore, Iran categorically denies any violation of arms embargoes or involvement in igniting conflicts in Yemen or anywhere else.
The full text of Amir Saeed Irwani's letter to Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Mrs. Linda Thomas Greenfield, the rotating president of the United Nations Security Council, regarding accusations in the meeting related to the review of developments in Yemen in the Security Council is as follows:
In the name of Allah, the Merciful
The present correspondence is in response to the baseless and politically motivated accusations raised by the representatives of the United States and the United Kingdom, which were persuaded and provoked by the representative of the Zionist regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran in the public meeting of the United Nations Security Council on December 30, 2024 under the agenda of “Threats”. against international peace and security” (session 9829), I will answer. While categorically rejecting all baseless accusations against my country in this meeting, I would like to remind the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran as follows:
1. The baseless accusations raised by the representative of the Zionist regime, which is accompanied by the support of its closest ally, the United States of America, is a clear attempt to blame Iran for its illegal actions and destructive activities. It is the hostile Zionist regime, not Iran, which has always pursued the policy of provocation and destabilizing activities and is considered a serious threat to regional and extra-regional peace and security.
2. As a responsible member of the United Nations, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always adhered to its obligations under international law and the United Nations Charter and has not been involved in any activities that contradict the relevant resolutions of the Security Council. Therefore, Iran categorically denies any violation of arms embargoes or involvement in igniting conflicts in Yemen or anywhere else.
3. The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the aggressive actions of the Zionist regime against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen, especially its attacks on civilians and vital infrastructures such as Sana'a Airport and Hodeidah Port, which are necessary for the delivery of vital humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people. These illegal actions, which are carried out with the direct support and complicity of the United States and the United Kingdom, are gross violations of the United Nations Charter and international law, including international humanitarian law. Such criminal actions not only endanger international peace and security, but also aggravate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
4. It is very worrying and at the same time contradictory that instead of fulfilling their responsibilities as permanent members of the Security Council to maintain international peace and security, the United States of America and the United Kingdom continue to provide political cover and military support for the reckless actions of the Zionist regime and at the same time raise baseless accusations against Iran. they do This obvious complicity has encouraged the Zionist regime to continue its actions with impunity and has caused the flare-up of regional conflicts and weakened the prospects of sustainable peace in Yemen under the leadership of the United Nations.
5. Iran's position towards Yemen has always been stable. Since the beginning of the crisis in 2015, Iran has supported a political solution to the conflict and called for a comprehensive ceasefire, inclusive dialogue and a peaceful process that respects Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Regarding the situation in the Red Sea, Iran once again emphasizes its commitment to ensure the safety and security of international shipping lines. Allegations of Iranian interference in the Red Sea are baseless claims designed to escalate tensions and create an excuse for further destabilization of the region by the United States and its allies.
6. The Security Council should not be influenced by the propaganda of the Zionist regime, which seeks to divert attention from the ongoing crimes and ethnic cleansing by this apartheid regime in Gaza. Instead, the Security Council should address the root causes of instability in the region, which include illegal occupation, aggression, systematic and widespread violations of international law, and the regime's blatant disregard for Security Council resolutions. The continuous genocide of this regime in Gaza, its refusal to adhere to the ceasefire in Lebanon and its relentless aggression and expansionism, including the recent occupation of more than 500 square kilometers of Syrian land and the continued illegal occupation of the Syrian Golan, are an existential threat to regional and international peace and security. is counted
7. The Security Council must act in accordance with its responsibility under the United Nations Charter and act decisively to hold the Zionist occupation regime and its supporters accountable for these gross violations of international law. Failure to do so will only weaken the trust in the United Nations and its ability to carry out its mission to maintain international peace and security. This failure weakens the foundations of this organization and encourages the Zionist regime to act with impunity, perpetuating the cycles of violence and instability in the region.
It will be grateful if this correspondence is registered and distributed as a document of the Security Council.
It renews the respects of the superior.
