Izadkhah: Joining Palermo and CFT blocks the sanctions bypassing

Speaking to Mehr reporter, Ruhollah Izadkhah, in response to some people's remarks that Iran should accept Palermo and CFT bills only if its terms are accepted by the other party, said: “We have been discussed in detail in the parliament's economic commission and we have been investigated.” It seems very unlikely that we can make a precondition, because the conventions themselves will not allow it, and if one member objectionable, it may be abolished.

He said that it is not possible to make a prerequisite for accepting Palermo and CFT bills, saying: On the other hand, accepting Palermo and CFT bills does not mean opening and lifting sanctions, which confirms that some countries that have accepted these bills are still on the FATF.

A member of the Economic Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly also pointed to a rule in the bills that constantly puts conditions for countries and imposes restrictions, adding: “Really accepting these two bills will not create any opening for us, and on the contrary, it might be the amount we could bypass sanctions.”

The representative of the people of Tehran in the Islamic Consultative Assembly emphasized the need to strengthen regional cooperation with its neighbors, stating: “The neighborhood policy in our diplomacy has been neglected for years and we did poorly.”

He said: “With the exception of a limited number of resistance countries, we have forgotten almost the relationship with other neighboring countries, and we were extremely weak in diplomacy, especially in economic diplomacy and interaction with neighbors.” Therefore, strengthening the neighborhood policy and economic interactions with neighbors must be supported.
