The East Cape Provincial Government said in a statement Wednesday: “Three people have died sadly due to the recent floods due to adverse weather conditions in the province.” These casualties have occurred in the midst of severe cold and flood conditions that have severely affected several societies.

Police reports have confirmed that six corpses were found along the village of Decolini in Metata, while the seventh body was found in Tsolo near the Badlana River, the local government said.

According to the statement, the devastating weather conditions, which have caused severe cold, heavy rains and sudden floods, have also caused significant damage to road infrastructure, displacement of residents, and impaired services.

The search said that the search for a minibus carrying students who was caught in the floods continues.

On Tuesday, the South African Meteorological Service promoted its warning to the East Cape Province and warned that more rainfall could worsen the situation in the coming days.
