Wafa: Japan examining recognition of Palestinian state

Japan is studying the possibility of recognizing Palestine as a state, Wafa news agency cited Japan’s ambassador to the State of Palestine as saying.

Yoichi Nakashima told Palestine TV: “The international community is convinced that there is no solution except for the existence of two states, Palestine and Israel,” Wafa said in its report.

As one of the largest donors to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), Nakashima said Tokyo is making every effort, along with partner countries, to support the work of the UN agency and its relief operations for the Palestinian people.

“The scenes of killing and destruction in Palestine touch the hearts of the Japanese because they have suffered from wars in the past,” the ambassador said.

Some ministers in the cabinet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have rejected the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir have time and again called for the forcible transfer of Palestinians from their motherlands and paving the way for settlers to move in.
