The overturn of the immigrant boat on the Canary Islands left at least 2 dead

Rescue services of the Canary Islands reported on Saturday that the dead were four women, along with two five -year -old daughters and a 5 -year -old daughter, according to the Mehr News Agency.

The incident happened when the boat was drawn to the dock so that its occupants, all of which were immigrants from southern Saharan Africa, could get out of it. The boat was less than ten meters away from the dock when overturned.

Although the exact reason for the boat's overturning is still under investigation, it seems that most passengers move to the side of the boat as they approach the dock, and weight change has made the boat unbalanced.

Emergency services also reported that some unconscious people were pulled out of the water and two children were rescued and taken to hospital.

The tragedy was recorded by television cameras, and images of the crew of a rescue vessel show the rescue vests and rescue belts into the sea, while desperate survivors struggle to climb the deck.
