Tehran’s meeting on Afghanistan should send unified message to int’l community: FM Amir-Abdollahian

(ISNA) – Addressing the second meeting of the foreign ministers of ’s neighboring countries, the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed, “Afghanistan’s current problems are largely rooted in , and the United States should accept responsibility for the devastations it has caused in Afghanistan over the past two decades”.

The second meeting of foreign ministers of 6 neighboring countries of Afghanistan plus was held in Tehran on Wednesday, with the presence of Iran, , and Uzbekistan foreign ministers, as well as the Chinese and Russian envoys.

Pointing to the purposes of the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian said, “We should try to send a unified message to the international community, regional countries and Afghanistan”.

Emphasizing that Iran supports the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, he added, “The responsibility for the security of Afghan citizens and borders with neighbors lies primarily with the governing body in Kabul. We must all help Afghanistan to get out of the current crisis”.

“Respect for sovereignty, preservation of territorial integrity and non-interference in the affairs of others are among the basic principles of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Resolving today’s crisis in Afghanistan requires internal cohesion, utilization of all capacities of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries,” the top Iranian diplomat noted.

“All neighbors and, in parallel, the international community should pay special attention to the political and humanitarian situation, as well as the spread of , drug trafficking, human rights and in the current situation in Afghanistan,” Amir-Abdollahian went on to say.

“The , as the ruling power in Afghanistan, has an undeniable role in ensuring security and the , respecting the rights of various groups, including women, providing living necessities for Afghan citizens, respecting ethnic and religious minorities and eradicating the roots of displacement. It is essential for the Taliban to take a friendly approach towards their neighbors and take steps to ensure that there will be no threat from Afghanistan to its neighbors,” he stressed.
