TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian media outlets reported that the Syrian army has put on alert its coast-to-sea missile systems after the recent US missile strikes against al-Shayrat airbase in Homs province.
According to Izvestia newspaper, the Syrian army has warned the US naval fleet in the Mediterranean against approaching the country’s coasts.
This is while the bigger danger threatening the US naval fleet comes from the Yakhont missiles used in the Russian Bastion defense system which can hit targets 300km away at the speed of 750m/s.
Also, Syria has 18 missile-launching systems to fire the Russian Redut missiles with the capability of hitting the target 270km away at the speed of 1,600km/h.
Meantime, Ivan Konovalov, chief of military policy and economy department of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, told the Arabic website of Sputnik news agency that “the Syrian forces can inflict heavy damage on the Americans by merely using the missiles possessed by their coastal guards”.
Earlier this week, chief of the Russian General Staff’s Main Operational Directorate Col. Gen. Sergei Rudskoi said that Moscow has warned against new US missile strikes on Syria.
“Militants are delivering toxic chemicals in Khan Sheikhoun, the Jira airport, East Ghouta and to the West of Aleppo,” the Russian General Staff said on Tuesday.
“The aim of these actions is to forge another pretext for accusing the Syrian government of using chemical weapons and for triggering new US strikes.”
“We warn against such inadmissible steps,” the general staff said, adding that the Russian military is to demand a thorough investigation of the alleged chemical attack by Syrian aviation on the city of Khan Sheikhoun.
