Sustainable security in region to be achieved only by cooperation among regional countries: Shamkhani

Tehran (ISNA) – Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who arrived in Tehran on Monday, met with Iran’s secretary of the Supreme National Security Council .

During the meeting, Shamkhani stressed that sustainable security and in the region will be achieved only by negotiations and cooperation among regional countries and said, “Iran’s main priority in foreign policy is to hold friendly relations with neighbors and exchange capacities in the fields of economy, trade and ”.

Emphasizing that the relations among regional countries should not be influenced by trans-regional states, Shamkhani noted, “Collective cooperation among Persian Gulf littoral states not only can bring developments and prosperity for their nations but also can help these countries to play an important role in the regional and international economy as the hub of energy”.

Stressing the need for joint efforts to end the military and security crises that have engulfed regional , the Iranian official said, “Dialogue and understanding must replace military approaches to the settlement of disputes”.

He expressed hope that the visit would open a new chapter in between Iran and the .

Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for his part, said, “Iran as a major and powerful country in the region has a unique geopolitical position that connects the East to the ”.

“Close and brotherly relations with Tehran constitute a priority in Abu Dhabi’s policies,” he added.

During the one-day visit to Tehran, Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is also scheduled to meet with Iranian President .
