Iran to boost environmental diplomacy, regional cooperation

Iran : Responding to ’ question about the Environmental Organization’s international follow-up to solve the dust problems, stated that the map of the leading dust centers inside and outside the country had been identified, surveyed, and oriented; the amount of input and output of this dust is also specified.

“We had good meetings with neighboring countries to solve the dust problem, and these negotiations will continue,” he noted.

The head of Iran’s stressed that regional capacities should be used to solve this problem, adding that the issue has been pursued in joint international projects, given that neighboring countries are also suffering.

Regarding the rehabilitation of wetlands, Salajegheh pointed out that if comprehensive watershed management is implemented in the regions, wetlands can be rehabilitated even in conditions.

Ali Salajeqeh, the head of the Department of Environment (DOE) of Iran also announced a 5% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and said: “We are under the economic terrorism and we are not able to fulfill our international obligations.”

Salajeqeh said: “Iran’s obligations in the agreement are not binding, given that it was a pre-commitment, because it has not been approved by the parliament.”

Iran had pledged in the Paris Agreement to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 4% if sanctions continue and by 8% if sanctions are lifted.

Referring to the summit, the DOE head said: “This is an exploitative policy that tells countries to both shut down and take clean energy generators from industrialized countries.”

“No statement was issued in Glasgow because the speeches of the leaders of many countries were slogans,” Salajeqeh said.
