Iran Junior Freestyle Wrestlers End Runners-up in Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Cup

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran‘s junior freestyle wrestling team took the second place at “Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Cup”, collecting four medals, including two precious golds in the international sporting event.

Iranian wrestler, Abbas Foroutan, won the final bout of the 85-kilogram weight category against a representative from Uzbekistan 11-0 to take home the gold medal.

He received a bye in the opening round of the category held at Baku Sports Hall in the Azerbaijani capital, before overcoming Kyrgyz and Azerbaijani opponents to qualify for the final match.

Iran‘s second gold medal at the tournament secured by Alireza Abdollahi with a victory over his Georgian rival in the 100-kilogram final encounter.

Meanwhile, Ashkan Koushki collected a bronze medal for Iran in the 63-kilogram category, after defeating his teammate Amir Hosserin Maqsoudi in repechage chances.

50-kilogram weight class wrestler, Mehdi Khodabakhsi also earned a bronze medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran, after he downed an Azerbaijani rival in the repechage bouts. 

The “Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Cup”, International Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament started in Baku on April 13 and will wrapped up on April 16, 2017.
