Investigating the Development of Rail and Commercial Cooperation at Ghaempanah and Iraqi Ambassador

According to Mehr News Agency, Mohammad Jafar Ghaempanah this afternoon, during a meeting with the Iraqi ambassador, referring to the extensive cultural, religious and border sharing of Iran and Iraq, described the expansion of friendly relations as the general demand of the two nations and emphasized the need for serious pursuit.

Referring to the importance of deepening pilgrimage and political relations through the promotion of transport infrastructure, he said: “The Shalamcheh -Basra Railway Corridor, whose contract has been signed between the two countries, is one of the important projects on the agenda that we have taken important steps to implement it and the Iraqi government is expected to implement it.”

The Vice President also emphasized the need to complete the Khosravi -Baghdad Railway Corridor in the year 6, adding that nearly 2 % of commodity exchanges with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are conducted through the Khosravi border.

Ghaempanah said that the Kermanshah rail project is underway to Islamabad, stating that Khosravi's connection to Baghdad also provides Iraqi rail links with the Caucasus and Central Asia, which will bring widespread economic benefits for both countries.

At the end of the meeting, the Iraqi ambassador assured that the issues raised at the meeting would quickly be transferred to the relevant authorities in the Iraqi government.

He also expressed hope that the opportunity would be a more serious pursuit of agreements, referring to the imminent visit of Iraqi delegations to Iran to visit the Expo Exhibition.

The mission of completing the country's priority rail corridors, including the Shalamcheh Railway to Basra, has been assigned by the President to his Executive Vice President.
