Sadeghi said that more than 5 % of these carpets are produced annually in Qom, adding that more than 5 % of these carpets are silk.

Sadeghi said: Qom has a 5 % share in the country's handmade carpet exports and the province's high capacity in this field is capable of upgrading with expert support and approaches.

The head of the Qom Producers' Union and weavers called for issues such as importing raw materials, tariffs, foreign exchange obligations and the return of carpets from abroad.

He expressed hope that the authorities would pave the way for the development of this artistic and cultural product by addressing these challenges.

Referring to the activity of 2,800 insured weavers in Qom, he raised the need for more support for those who face the challenge.

Sadeghi pointed to the activities of the union such as education, information, the establishment of the relationship between industry, market and university, setting up a growth center in collaboration with Science and Technology Park, holding universities training classes, and knowledge -based activities.

The head of the Union of Producers and weavers of Qom emphasized: Government support can play a key role in the development of carpet production in Qom.

Sadeghi announced the holding of the 18th Handmade Carpet Exhibition in Qom province, which was held from the second to 6th of February at the permanent site of the International Exhibitions of the province.

He added: 2 exhibitors from different provinces of Iran, including Isfahan, East Azarbaijan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad and Khorasan Razavi, were present at the exhibition.

He added: Special visitors from Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Canada as well as the Malaysian and Nigerian ambassadors also attended the exhibition.

Sadeghi said: This year the exhibition has grown significantly in terms of quantity and quality compared to previous periods and has been one of the most successful domestic exhibitions, according to experts.
