Fidan: We must return to the path before “Sarkozy” for our membership in the European Union

According to Mehr news agency, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in a conversation with France 24 channel about Ankara's relations with the European Union, stated that Turkey and France should return to the line before the Sarkozy era, with the support of political leaders in Germany and France mentioned Turkey's membership in the European Union before Sarkozy.
Fidan said: Until the time of Nicolas Sarkozy (former president of France), the political leaders of two major European countries, Germany and France, considered Türkiye's membership in the European Union as a strategic step.
Hakan Fidan further added that during the Sarkozy era, Turkey's membership was considered as a part of internal politics and Turkey was viewed through the lens of identity politics.
Turkish Foreign Minister continued: We must return to the line before Sarkozy. Therefore, merit-based membership should be opened. Türkiye should unite with Europe to create a more effective power in the region.
