Annual occurrence of 6,000 accidents leading to disability

According to Mehr News Agency, Seyyed Javad Hosseini, head of the country's Welfare Organization, has left for the United Nations headquarters in New York to attend and lecture at the 18th International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

During a meeting with Dr. Amir Saeed Irvani, Iran's representative to the United Nations, said: “We have a law in the field of employment of people with disabilities that allocates 5 % of the capacity of government agencies.” Although the general public thinks this law is not enforced, we held a dedicated test for the first time last year.

He added: “Investigations showed that if the law is fully enforced over the past five years, 6,800 people had to be hired.” Therefore, with the necessary permits, the recruitment test for people with disabilities with a capacity of 1,800 was held.

Hosseini said: In addition, in the national observation system for employment creation, the Welfare Organization quota was 6,000, but we were able to create jobs for 6,000 female -headed households and people with disabilities. This represents a 5 % growth over the specified quota.

The head of the Welfare Organization said: The world standard of the population has a disability of about 2 %, but we conducted a comprehensive national survey in nine provinces with a study of 6,000 households, and unlike the general census that only records the existence of a disability, this survey provides multilayer data and the results showed nearly 1 million people.

He emphasized: Of these, one and a half thousand people receive monthly pensions from the Welfare Organization, which is determined by the income decile and later household. It also provides 5 million people with consulting, assistance, genetic and rehabilitation services such as physiotherapy.

He said: In the social sphere, 6,000 accidents lead to disability annually, which is higher than the global average compared to the population. However, Iran has been successful in preventive screening; Post -revolutionary lazy eye screening has reduced the outbreak to 4.9 percent, while the global average is 0.5 to 5 percent.

According to the Public Relations Department of the National Welfare Organization, Hosseini emphasized at the end: The National Welfare Organization is the National Convention on the Rights of Disabilities (CRPD), and it is necessary to raise Iran's achievements in the international arena.
