Zakani: As much as we need, we can build a shelter in Tehran

Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani told Mehr reporter about the plan to build deep emergency shelters for the people of Tehran: “Most importantly, we can create conditions that have the capabilities through extensive subsurface and deep parking lots that have a shelter in times of emergencies.”
He added: “We have set the frameworks to build these shelters and, given the 5 % permission of our subsurface parking lots for our passages and service spaces in the field of green space, without damaging the surface underground, we will execute and build them underground.”
Responding to a question about the capacity and limit of deep shelters, Zakani stated: There is no limit to the construction of these shelters (in Tehran) and no matter how much the city needs to be implemented and built.
Basically the subway is not built for shelter
The mayor of Tehran responded to another Mehr reporter's question about the use of the capital's subway capacities in war and air strikes: “The metro has not been built for the issue of the shelter, so it does not have the necessary facilities to shelter.”
“As a result, we have considered conditions that we can quickly convert the subway to the safe places used,” he said. So the subway currently has the deficiencies that have been built to compensate for these shortcomings.
